21 Things I Did at 21

Life at 21 has proven to be a huge turning point for me! Not only did I do things, I learned a lot about life in general too. It has indeed been an eye-opener, and I feel as though I have changed a lot since. As much as I would love to stay 21, ( I mean come on, it's a great age) I don't know about you, but I'm definitely feeling 22. - I have waited 6 years to say that...

1. I met Wentworth Miller!

As if I haven't spoken about this moment enough. I don't think I will ever shut up about it, to be honest. Wentworth Miller is my hero. Not only do I adore his work in Prison Break and Legends of Tomorrow, but the amount of effort and time he has put into campaigning for mental health is also breathtaking.

I couldn't admire someone anymore if I tried. I never thought actually meeting Wentworth and having the opportunity to tell him he saved my life could be possible if my friend Fyza didn't come with me, thank you thank you thank you.

2. I experienced my first fan convention

On the subject of Mr. Miller, meeting him meant I could go to my very first 'comic con' style convention. Although I'm not one to dress up, I found it so easy to get into the spirit of the LOT fandom with so many friendly faces! I also got to meet fellow Prison Break brother Dominic Purcell and had the opportunity to ask them questions in one of the discussions. Bonus!

3. I went on my first girls holiday

For the first time in my life, I got a decent tan! It may have been a relaxing one, but it didn't end in such fashion. If you know me personally, you'll know my sidekick Amelia, and just how much trouble we get ourselves into from time to time...

4. Yes, I got chicken nuggets tattooed on my arse.

I know. When I say we get into trouble, I mean it. 6 Sex on the Beach cocktails later my arse was in the face of a Tenerife tattoo artist. I still have no words...

5. More travelling! Damn, Amsterdam

I did some more travelling later on in the year and ticked Amsterdam off of my bucket list. It was undoubtedly one of the most beautiful, cultural places I have ever visited.

6. Anne Frank Museum

With Amsterdam, comes Anne Frank. There was no question that I wouldn't pay my respects to someone I have admired since I was 13. I can't describe how I felt when I walked into the Annex. You can read more about my experience in Amsterdam here.

7. I wrote my first novel

Finally. I have dreamed of that author title since I was a kid. While it is still in progress, I am so proud of myself for finally biting the bullet and creating something so special. You can find some sneaky snippets over on my Instagram!

8. Cut ties with toxic people

After years of holding on, I finally left the toxic people from my teens behind. In my twenties, I realised that just because you love someone doesn't mean they deserve to be apart of your life. Friendships and relationships, although both require a lot of work, should always feel effortless.

9. Made new friends

#TalkMH, created by my lovely friend Hannah Rainey, led me to some truly incredible new friends. I can't thank this source of comfort enough for welcoming me into a world where people talk through their struggles without judgment. It's time to talk after all.

10. Removed all pills from my body

I struggled with medication in 2017 and even before. It was something I desperately relied on, antibiotics, antidepressants, even paracetamol. All on a daily basis and now I have a failing liver to prove it. Oops. Things are looking up though, I now have ZERO pills running through my body, and I couldn't be happier.

11. I finally lost weight! A Christmas miracle...

This is in line with number 10. I have been stuck at the same weight ( after gaining a whopping two stone within a year) for the past year, but since coming off of the contraceptive pill, I have lost 12 pounds and counting! I love feeling healthy again.

12. I accepted myself

Although weight loss shouldn't be a huge factor in my life, it did massively affect my confidence. Now I am learning to accept my body and mind for all of its flaws, and I couldn't feel more at peace. I have a long way to go, but I shall enjoy the journey!

13. With a healthy body comes a healthy mind

My mental health has improved massively. At the beginning of turning 21 I didn't think I could stick around for 22, but now I am welcoming my age with open arms.

14. I saved a few lives.

The number of people that messaged me in 2017 telling me this blog had saved their life was overwhelming. I can't believe my writing managed to prevent someone from taking their life. Let alone more than five people! I hope to continue to use this blog to help support others.

Just a few more...

15. I became an organ donor

16. I featured in two magazines

17. I shared my darkest thoughts

18. I went out-out... a lot.

19. I learned to enjoy change

20. I opened my heart up to love.

21. I let myself be happy.

Thank you for an incredible year, I couldn't have made my 21st more special without running this blog. Heres to getting my shit together at 22!

At least I hope so...

S

xoxo
