World Book Day - Favourite Book Quotes & A Very, Very, Exciting Announcement.

Without books, I would have nothing.

I couldn't imagine the world without reading. I have never understood those who don't enjoy the concept of laying in bed or relaxing in the garden, a great book in one hand and an ice cold lemonade in the other. But then again, one-half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other. (- Jane Austen, Emma)

You're never alone when you're reading a book. (Susan Wiggs) The magical effect of a good book can linger in your heart for days, months, even years. Maybe this is why we read, and why in moments of darkness we return to books: to find words for what we already know. (Alberto Manguel)

In celebration of such a beautiful day, I have gathered some of the most beautiful, inspiring quotes that have stuck with me throughout my life, from authors who I adore, who I could only ever dream to know.

I also have a very, very exciting announcement.

Exciting to me, anyway.

I'm writing my very first book. Say what?! Yes, I, Shannon Valentine ( Know known as S.M Valentine...fancy) am writing a novel. Filled with excerpts from the book I thought as a 16-year old I would never write. But now, 21, here I am. I have finally realised that I can do whatever I please if I truly put my mind to it.

I thought I would give you a little taste of what's to come. A few snippets here and there that I feel could make an impact on a few readers. I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on my writing, as I can only improve with a little push in the right direction.

'I'm a writer, god dammit. We fabricate our own royalty. We are the Kings and Queens of ingenuity.' - S.M Valentine

'We believe someone else's love story is better than our own, but we haven't actually read it. We've just looked at the pictures.' - S.M Valentine

'Humankind will always search for inspiration in books, quotes and lyrics to satisfy their desires. Without writers, the world would be very misunderstood indeed. We find comfort in writing because we desperately do not want to feel lonely. Even when you're alone in the darkest of silence, the pages of a good book will always be your friend - S.M Valentine

Creativity is key to a wonderful life. Find yours and squeeze every last drop of it onto the pages of your story. Tell it with passion and truth. Be authentic, and your words will sing to the readers. - S.M Valentine

We are fortunate enough to be able to buy books, pens and paper. We listen to music that makes us feel all sorts of emotion. Hell, we have access to magnificent literature that has lived on earth longer than most of us combined. - S.M Valentine

The state of depression feels like smoking a cigarette, actually. You know, when you leave it a little too long and the red flame burns out? You provide it with the desperately needed air, and it's alive again, burning red - happiness, but only ever for a matter of minutes, it seems. You give it as much life as you can yet it still dies, killing you in the process. - S.M Valentine

Your first love may not be your last, but they seem to stick in your mind for quite some time. Whether you think about them constantly or they never cross your mind, it only takes finding an old love letter or coming across a photograph to make you feel again. Is it nostalgia? Or are you honestly still hoping that, deep down inside, feelings can reignite? You feel that spark, born again, more alive than ever but you don't have any matches to light the fire. You look at the way he admires you so lovingly in old pictures, analysing the way he smiles, thinking about a time when everything was perfect. When you felt wanted and every love song screamed at you. Unfortunately, most of the time these reoccurring feelings are untrue. Your heart is still grieving. Perhaps grieving for the love you lost or grieving the loss of a loved one who is still alive. When you're in love, time goes by so fast. When you're heartbroken, time stands still. That's the thing about time I'm afraid; there's only one thing more precious, and that is who we spend it on. Think how sacred the time you have to spend is, enjoy every moment. Be so busy that you have no time to look back in the past because you're living now. Time is now. Love is whenever. - S.M Valentine

So, what do you think? I'd love to hear what your favourite quote is! From my chosen books or perhaps even my own quotes.
